The Dark Knight Opening Scene Analysis





Sound:

Sound is very important within a Action Film to help set the tone mood and atmosphere.

Non-diegetic music is used to reflect the narrative events such as the bank robbery

Diegetic sound is used in the dialogue between the characters
Camera Angles:

A close-up shot is used to show the characters's masks

An establishing shot is used of the setting Of the cityhis establishes where the narrative is going to take place.lishes where the narrative is going to take place.
A two shot is used of the characters when they are trying to brake open a electric box to show their relationship to not be very good because he kills the other guy shortly after
A tracking shot follows the action of when they are going along the zip wire to reveal to the audience that something exciting will happen soon this engages them because they want to see what happens

The audience want to know what will happen to the characters who are stealing the money
Symbolic codes are shown in the mise-en-scene:

In the opening the audience would identify symbols such as the guns and trhe masks these could make the audience feel/think there is going to be some action in the coming scene.

Props/ costumes:

The audience can see that the characters are wearing dark clothes with masks this shows that they want to hide their identites this is typical of the genre because the bad guys in action films genrally hide there identities
Props are featured such as the guns this is typical of the genre as it shows there will be fighting scenes which is typical in the action genre
Clichés:

Noticeable clichés are used in the opening scene such as the zip wire which is a wierd way to travel this engages the audience as they recognise these features and can predict what is going to happen in the narrative.

       Sound is very important within a Action film to help set the tone mood and atmosphere.
       Non-diegetic music is used to reflect the narrative events such as when bane is captured there is intense music in the beackground to make the scene more intense.

       Diegetic sound is used in the dialogue between the characters in the scene where bane is on the plane and is talking to another man.it reveals that by the way they are speaking in the scene they do not like eachother, this shows that the genre is action.
      Camera Angles:

      A close-up shot is used to show the bane having a bag being taking off his head the close up has a good intense effect for the audience 

      An establishing shot is used of the setting of the plane flying over the jungle this establishes where the narrative is going to take place.

      A two shot is used of bane and a man speaking to each other this shows they do not like eachother we can tell because of there facial expressions

      A tracking shot follows the plane flying over the green fieldsto reveal to the audience where they are going and to give them a clue something might happen eg a explosion because its a action filmthis engages them because knowing that something might happen will make them want to watch on

      The main characters are introduced in the opening scene when bane gets a bag taken off his head on the plane the audience recognizes that he is one of the main characters through the use of the dialogue/camera shots/events that they are involved in.

      The opening scene features certain narrative events such as bane being captured on the plane these conform to the genre as other openings such as the dark knight which is the previous film as they feature similar events.

      Enigma codes are used to tease the audience and engage them in the narrative so they carry on watching the film. Certain enigmas are included in the opening such as puzzles about why bane is in the plane questions are left unanswered about how batman will come into the film

  • A tracking shot follows the action of the man walking out of the shop and making his coffee  to reveal to the audience that he is the man character because the first few shots of the film is revolved around him this engages the audience because they want to see what happens later on in the film to him after the explosion
